An invitation to a séance
It arrives mysteriously in her mailbox on a Sunday
No return label
Crisp squared envelope
A hint of jasmine
Type faced letters
You are invited…
An unknown address somewhere in the city
A foggy evening
A fur lined jacket pulled tight
A velvet dress with tiny yellow flowers
Steep steps to an old Victorian
She knocks upon a brown door with no number
The whoosh of air change as it opens
Warm red light and hall shadows
A silent host puts his finger to his mouth
A dark interior of hung up curiosities
The soft tinkle of glass
A room of solemn strangers
A round table with small white cards
One with her name
She sits
She catches the slight smile of a red lipped woman
The strangers shuffle closer
A bell is rung
The candles flicker
It begins
