It arrives mysteriously in her mailbox on a Sunday

No return label

Crisp squared envelope

A hint of jasmine

Type faced letters

You are invited…

An unknown address somewhere in the city

A foggy evening

A fur lined jacket pulled tight

A velvet dress with tiny yellow flowers

Steep steps to an old Victorian

She knocks upon a brown door with no number

The whoosh of air change as it opens

Warm red light and hall shadows

A silent host puts his finger to his mouth

A dark interior of hung up curiosities

The soft tinkle of glass

A room of solemn strangers

A round table with small white cards

One with her name

She sits

She catches the slight smile of a red lipped woman

The strangers shuffle closer

A bell is rung

The candles flicker
