What comes just before something?

What is the opposite of an echo?

What is a seasonal premonition?

If that even is a thing?

Because that happened to me

The dark absence of autumn peeked at me behind velvet curtains

as a I danced through September birthdays

trying to pretend I didn't see his wicked grin

That the music would keep playing

I turned the corner and October said stop, time to get serious

This is the disappointing reality of preparing for the rapture

You can't skip over this part

Your spells won't work here

You have to speak your truth

Even when it's the dangerous river that creates the canyons you were trying to avoid crossing

You can't take it back

So you have to own it

October says there are gifts coming though it feels like death

October says you will not be spared

This alchemy takes fire

You will be changed,

hardened into amber and gold
