Last night I dreamt
A polar bear emerged through a snow dusted forest, its coal black eyes set upon me but I was not frightened
Last night I dreamt
I could fly above the water but I started falling faster and faster until I crash landed in a forest of evergreen trees
Last night I dreamt
I made pickled ice cream and salamander toast and had a tea party with my daughter who had dark hair instead of light at the edge of a blown out building several stories up
Last night I dreamt
I was in the backseat of a car careening off a freeway, trying to grab the steering wheel, feeling the terror of tipping into the abyss
Last night I dreamt
I saw an old lover in a crowd of people. He grabbed my hand and led me out of the fray. I knew there was a piece of home still in his warm grasp.
Last night I don’t remember my dreams in the dark and peaceful sleep
These other lives lived
These tumbled jumbled universes at the edges of night
Sleep tight, here comes some good sailing
